Hydroseeding Mulches

Bonded Fiber Matrix Mulch:  This type of mulch is a continuous elongated fiber-strands layer bonded together by a water-resistant bonding element to prevent direct rain droplets’ effect on the soil. The soil and the product are airtight with the high water-resistant capacity to achieve this aim. The application of bonded fiber matrix slurry eliminates rain seepage via the slurry into the ground underneath.

A bonded fiber matrix (BFM) will not only build insensitive water crust that can affect plant growth but will also biodegrade totally into useful materials that are beneficial and enhance plant growth. This type of mulch option may seem expensive but it is cost-effective for a special project such as areas with high slope gradient where effective erosion control is critical. In this kind of situation, bonded fiber matrix is highly recommended to achieve the best result.

Wood Fiber Mulch: This is the best match for areas or lawns where a high degree of erosion control is required. 100% wood fiber mulch may contain a tackifier to ensure slurry firmly stick to the soil particles during the initial phase.  The addition of tackifier makes wood fiber mulch to be different and effective to make the binder to hold to soil particles and keeping the fertilizer and seeds in place, to give the required results.

The binder used in wood fiber mulch is environmental-safe which breaks down to enhance the soil calcium and sulphur for healthy soil. Wood fiber mulch is an alternative to bonded fiber matrix to hold extreme high slope of land (or erosion prone area) if you can’t afford the cost of bonded fiber matrix.

Blended Mulch: Blended mulch is the combination of both paper and wood, blended at proper proportion to give the best result. This type of mulch is the best option in a situation where there is heavy traffic, and the lawn is being used to subject it to frequent footing.

The best and quality blending ratio is 70% wood to 30% paper, but some people are using 60/40 blend. However, the higher the ratio in favour of wood, the more effective erosion control it will offer. The extra 10% from the difference above does a lot, in improving control of erosion and overall protection against the foot, animal, and other external forces.

The blended mulches have found to be modern and effective for different types of projects. If properly mixed, special binding agents can be added to the mulch mixture to perform the same function of the high rate of soil adhesion, binding the fertilizer and the seed together just like wood fiber mulch.

Paper Mulch: The paper mulch application for hydroseeding is weighed to be the least expensive with little or no significant result in an open area; thus, it is not usually recommended to be applied on an area that has not received any hydroseed before. However, it can be accepted to be implemented on a lawn existing area just to fill the gaps or to beautify an existing bed in the home or office compound.
